Fall is arguably the best season to travel (with the exception of Thanksgiving). The leaves change colors. Temperature is dropping and the weather becomes cooler. Holidays are drawing near. Food becomes plenteous and less shameful to eat. There is more time spent with loved ones. Halloween. Thanksgiving. Enough said.
Foliage is beautiful during this time, so why wouldn’t you want to travel? Well… this list is composed of my desired Fall Travel Bucketlist. If I missed any good Fall Destinations, do share them in the comments below.
American Destinations for Fall Travel
San Antonio, Texas
I’m a little partial to San Antonio because I am a native Texan (Houstonian to be more specific). San Antonio offers more than just the Alamo. It has the gorgeous River Walk that seems to look even more beautiful during the Fall season. San Antonio is a part of the Texas Hill Country, so venture beyond the Alamo and check out the beautiful views and natural sites that San Antonio has to offer.
Orlando is one of my favorite places to visit. I’ve visited several times, but never during the Fall. However, the focus of visiting Orlando during the Fall is Disney World. What about it? I thought you’d never ask. Every year, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is held. New shows and performances are held, additional events take place, and it is the only time Disney allows guests to dress up in costumes. (There are rules, and it is pretty strict.) Either way, I’d love to visit.
If you’re looking for a great location for your fall travel, Boston offers beautiful scenery during the Fall. The temperatures are great and feel free to layer that clothing. If Halloween is major for you, the Salem Witch Museum is an option. Six Flags New England hosts their Fright Fest, as does other Six Flags Parks across the country. Those are all of the makings of a pretty good trip. If Halloween is not your thing, no worries, there is something to suit all tastes here. If football is your thing, check out the Patriots.
Fall Foliage. Check. Beaches. Check. Great food and shopping. Check. Festivals Galore. Check. Portland, Maine has everything you need for the perfect Fall vacation. This is not to be confused with Portland, Oregon. In addition, it offers spectacular Fall views and sites. Visiting during the Fall season is cheaper and more quiet, or intimate. Again… who wouldn’t enjoy this?
Bald Head Island, North Carolina
This coastal island is outside of Wilmington. I’m a girl who is passionate about her islands and beaches, so of course, it makes sense to add Bald Head Island. The name sounds funny, but the Fall is the perfect time to visit. One amazing fun fact is there are no cars on the island. Zero! Only a little over one hundred residents call this place home. There is no shortage of amazing food. Nature and relaxation are yours while you’re in this paradise.
Clear skies, warm weather, and a pirate-themed parade. Unlike the other cities, this is not the least busy time. Savannah is a popular Fall destination. It is relatively close to beaches on Tybee Island. There is no shortage of festivals. The food is abundant. The scenery is amazing. They even have hauntings (see ghosts in buildings as you walk by) if you are interested. (I am not.)
Music City! Home of the Country Music. Nashville is every bit as glamorous as you can imagine. It is most recommended to visit during the summer and fall months. There are plenty of free events, free live entertainment, and museums and galleries to suit your taste. Whether you take a trip solo, with your significant other, or with the family, there is plenty to keep you busy. Get a taste of the cultures in the many recommended restaurants. Who knows… you may even run into your favorite artist(s) here.
European Destinations for Fall Travel
Though this is still a crowded time period for London, the autumn views make it worth it. There are plenty of concerts and festivals to busy yourself with. Whichever site(s) you decide to visit, it will be worth while. On top of this, should you find your luck is good, you may find yourself attending the Fashion Week or the MTV EMAs. Worse case scenario, catch some of the stars that will be in town. Either way, it’s hard to go wrong with visiting England.
When I think of Transylvania, I think of two things. One. My favorite shade of NYX Matte Lipstick. Two. I think of Hotel Transylvania. I think that it is important to note that Transylvania does not look nearly as creepy as the movies/shows depict it to be. In fact, it offers wonderful views, beautiful scenery, and yes, they even have a castle, or two.
Loire Valley & Paris, France
Paris is a year-round popular vacation destination. Loire Valley offers spectacular views. Tourist crowds lessen during the Fall months, which makes it the perfect time to visit France. Like New York, Paris needs no elaboration. Eiffel Tower. Fashion Week. Shopping. Pastries. The list goes on and on. Loire Valley holds some of France’s most spectacular natural scenery. This is the perfect destination for solo travel, small group trips, and/or couples.
To be honest, I’d visit Italy any time of the year. For some reason, though, I feel like I’d enjoy myself the most during Fall. Whether it’s Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, the Amalfi Coast, or any of the other towns, there are views worth watching. Heck! I’d love to attend Fashion Week in Milan. I’d visit the beaches, explore the smaller villages, shop until I drop, and embrace the culture. Of course, I couldn’t visit without a wine tasting session or without learning to make an authentic Italian pasta dish.
